Choosing Your Banner Material
Understanding GSM (Grams per Square Metre)
GSM measures banner weight and thickness — higher GSM means thicker, heavier, more durable banner. In Tanzania the sweet spot is 440gsm — strong enough for outdoor use, light enough to handle and install easily. Use lighter 340gsm for short campaigns and heavier 510gsm for billboards and long-term displays.
340gsm Economy Frontlit (Budget)
Our lightest banner material. Ideal for short campaigns (3-6 months), election period banners, one-time events, and budget-conscious projects. Saves 20% over standard. Won't last as long in Tanzania's sun — recommended for under 6 months outdoor use.
440gsm Standard Frontlit (Tanzania Standard)
Our most popular banner material. Tanzania's standard for outdoor banners — perfect balance of durability, print quality and price. Lasts 1-2 years outdoors with good colour retention. The default choice for most shop signs, event banners and corporate signage.
510gsm Heavy Duty Frontlit
Premium thick banner material for long-term installations. Used for billboards, building façades, fence wraps, and any banner that needs to last 2-3+ years outdoors. Heavier and more rigid — better for very large sizes and high-wind locations.
Backlit PVC Flex
Translucent banner material designed for use in lightboxes and illuminated signs. Colours glow brightly when lit from behind — perfect for restaurant menus, pharmacy signs, salon displays, and any 24-hour business that needs visibility at night.
Mesh PVC Flex (Wind Permeable)
Banner material with thousands of tiny holes that let wind pass through. Essential for very tall banners (building wraps, billboards), high-wind locations, and fence wraps. Without mesh, large banners would catch wind and tear or rip down their mounting hardware.
Block-Out PVC (Double-Sided)
Special PVC with an opaque black inner core that prevents see-through. Required for true double-sided banners where you don't want the print on one side to bleed through to the other. Used for hanging banners, street-side banners visible from both directions.
Edge Finishing Explained
- Heat Welded Hem — banner edge is folded over and welded shut with heat. Strongest finish, won't unravel. Tanzania standard.
- Stitched Hem — banner edge is folded and sewn with heavy thread. Classic finish, very strong, slightly traditional look.
- Raw Cut — banner edges are simply cut with no hem. Cheapest but edges may fray over time.
- Pole Pocket Hem — extra-deep hem creating a sleeve for poles to slide through. For hanging banners and pole-mounted signs.
Grommets / Eyelets Explained
Grommets (also called eyelets) are metal reinforcement rings punched into the banner at regular intervals along the edges. You thread rope, zip-ties or wire through them to mount the banner. Grommets every 50cm is the Tanzania standard — secure enough for windy outdoor mounting.
Not sure which combination suits your project? Chat to us on WhatsApp — describe where the banner will be displayed (indoor/outdoor, how long, how high) and we'll recommend the right material, finish and grommet pattern.
How to Order Your PVC Flex Banners
There are 3 easy ways to order PVC flex banners from Magno Tanzania:
1. Upload Your Design
Upload your file in the calculator above. Banners look best with bold, simple designs. Supply at 150 DPI at final print size with 5-10cm bleed on all sides (extra space to wrap around the hem).
2. Let Us Design
Toggle "Design Assistance" and send us your logo, key message and any photos. Our team will create a large-format banner design that reads from a distance — perfect for shop fronts and outdoor signs.
3. Order via WhatsApp
Need billboard-scale banners, fence wraps, double-sided street banners, or full installation? Hit "Order via WhatsApp" — we offer site visits in Dar, Arusha, Mwanza and Geita.
Banner design tips:
- Keep text BIG — at least 1/10 of banner height for readability from 30 metres.
- Use bold, high-contrast colours (black on yellow, white on red).
- Keep critical content 10cm from edges (away from grommets and hems).
- Limit to 5-7 words for shop banners — less is more from a distance.
- Include a phone number or QR code, not a full website URL.
